Daniela Stief

All my work is hand built as individual pieces. I either roll the clay out in slabs, fold and join them together or build shapes up with coils - often I combine these methods.

I make hanging bird sculptures, vases, pictures, bowls, plates and tiles and lots more. I experiment with different patterns and the way coloured slips, oxides, glazes or glass are showing up in the patterns.

My figurative work is stylised and quite quirky, I like to see how the twist of a head, for example, changes the whole expression.

I have my own kiln in which I fire my pieces to 1250 degrees. This means they are frost-proof and can also be put in the dishwasher.

I am taking part in Cambridge Open Studios 2016 on 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th July between 11am and 6pm at 59 Highworth Avenue, Cambridge CB4 2BQ.  I will be exhibiting along with Jo Tunmer, Rhiannon Thomas and Janet Powell - four artists at one studio! Do come and say hello.
